Yesterday I got a warning message 'DPF malfunction' along with the warning triangle light. The book naturally says - consult a Mazda dealer. But as I'm in Spain at the moment I was trying to determine if there are any options. The car is performing perfectly (no reduced power) and was serviced about 2500 miles ago. Oil level is also fine.

Seems my 1.6tdi 2015 rapid is suffering similar fate, dpf light came, before could take for a thrash now have flashing coil light and EML showing, plugged in my obd2 reader, code 258 which is egr I think, guess this go in to be expensive even at trusted local garageGrrr, dpf been a pain since having the emissions warranty work done, should

I reset the DPF counter using the steps in the link above, and during the process I think I shorted something that wasnt supposed to be and now I have no speedometer and numerous fault lights up. Car still runs but engine light, DSC OFF light, traction control light, ABS light, airbag light and power steering light all stay on while car is running.

So the unsuspecting owner like me opens the manual and gets told to go and see their dealer and expecting it to be something serious. I think it is VERY poor to have this dual use of the DPF light made even worse by no mention of it in the owners manual.

As the light is on you will need to regenerate your dpf. You local spares shop will sell something you put in your fuel tank to regenerate your dpf. Simply put it in your fuel tank and go for a good run and take your revs above 2000 rpm and after about 20/25 mile the light should go out.
